What problems does Google Wave solve?

Excellent article by Daniel Tenner about what on Earth Google Wave is for, in which he makes a compelling case that it is indeed for something, but not the something the early adopters may be interested in - essentially it's for corporate communications and collaborations.
But I still think it's going to be a long time yet.
